Dagupan Named "Highly Competitive" City
Dagupan City was honored by the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) during the awarding ceremony of the Philippine Cities Competitiveness Ranking Program (PCCDRP) 2007 in Makati last July 4.
Out of 90 cities surveyed, Dagupan City distinguished itself as one of the 25 top-performing Philippine Cities in Competitive Studies which was composed of three categories: metro, mid-sized and small. The cities were then analyzed and evaluated based on its competitiveness in: “dynamism of local economy, infrastructure, human resources and training, responsiveness of LGU to business needs and quality life”.
Dagupan City joins forty-five other cities in the small-sized category, which includes Bayawan, Calapan, Calbayog, DAGUPAN, Dipolog, Laoag, San Fernando (La Union), Malaybalay, Naga, Surigao, Tagbilaran ang Tuguegarao.
Dagupan City Administrator Alvin Fernandez credited this success to the city’s human resources and training as Dagupan particularly scored high in the evaluation by AIM. For Fernandez, this attainment must serve as a factor for employees to refine their crafts and give better services to the public and to make the city a better place for further opportunities on employment and business enterprises.
The program was launched in 1999 with the vision of promoting national competitiveness through healthy competition among highly urbanized and developing cities, highlighting the importance of small and medium enterprises in progress and development. (CIO/ Lovely Joy Julian)
